It has traditional sculpted keytops, curved to fit your fingertips, and keep you from sliding out of home position. The Mini Laptop Pro has special Anti-Ghosting Circuitry also called n-key rollover to eliminate multiple-keypress ghosting problems. As these keyboards are mechanical in nature, there will usually be very slight variations in the tonal quality of the clicking sounds that the keys make. Factors such as the location of each key on it's circuit board influence how closely the key is bound to the standoffs that secure the circuit board to the base, and so on.

This is my first time I really feel that I have to write a review after a purchase, and unfortunately this is an negative one on my Apple Keyboard. I am not sure if I am the only unlucky person here who got a defective one, or if there is other customer having the same issue.

The copy that I got has serious out-of-box issue. When I type in, the keystroke occasionally repeat itself, and to a point that is not acceptable and I was asking for Amazon for a replacement after a few hours of use. However, Amazon can only offer me a partial refund instead of the replacement. In order to fix this problem not to produce another piece of garbage for the good of mother earth, I have ordered some keyswitches from Matias such that I can replace those defective keys myself, and again unfortunately, this does not fix the problem.

The defect seems to be lying within the PCB or the controller, or worse, in the keyswitch design. The clicks just lock into that rhythmic bit of the brain that makes it all so much easier. I agree that a traditional layout feels cramped after an ergonomic one, but after the initial frustrations, the Filco is a joy to type on. Sounds as if the Ergo Pro would be right up your street.

Emma Goldsmith says:. Sorry for some typos. Typing on my phone again. Magic keybord! I love it and I want it;. John Taylor says:. The good — tapetty tap tap In the flow on my Microsoft ergonomic, I would be counting time with feet and fingers, subdividing one tap of the foot with four or eight keystrokes and getting text onto the screen blindingly fast not sure how fast — but FAST.

And now we get to the actual keys.

    Smaller only in some ways

I can type on most anything but I do love the feel of a good mechanical keyboard. The key travel just feels more comfortable to me. I beat the hell out of my keys and they need to hold up to that kind of abuse. Better than that, the need to perform better under that abuse. I don't mind the loud Cherry switched keys in my home office.

However, I do record a podcast and it can be a problem having clicky keys. A loud keyboard is also not compatible with conference calls. This is what drew me to the Matias Laptop Pro.

Their keys are quieter but still have a good amount of click feel. Checkout their sound comparison page. That's what finally convinced me.

I also almost fell asleep listening to the key sounds on repeat. That should be a white-noise app alternative. The sounds of someone making something by typing on a good keyboard is very soothing to me. Let's start with the least important part of a keyboard: the appearance.

    Are you a human?

I dislike the silver plastic case of the Laptop Pro. I think it's meant to resemble the Apple MacBook Pro case but it doesn't. It's too shiny and makes the expensive keyboard look cheap. I do like the printed keys though. The explicit printed tertiary characters are awesome. The white print is actually off-white and looks nice right out of the box. Let's move to the keyboard size and shape now. It's very thick at over one inch. I can't tell if this was a design choice or a consequence of the large battery. It took a day or two to get comfortable with the keyboard.

I think it might have actually improved my typing posture and forced me to hold my wrists up slightly. This could be uncomfortable for some people. The diminutive width of the keyboard is great. One of the problems I had with the Apple Aluminum keyboard was that the arrow keys were too far to be used comfortably.

But the real kicker was how much further away I had to position my mouse. With the Laptop Pro keyboard the arrow keys are right against the shift and return keys. My mouse is only a few inches from the right arrow key.
